Why Use Glass?

small pink face earrings reflecting light

When light meets glass and passes through it, the hidden innate, primary nature of glass is revealed in the illumination. No other medium will deliver this unique liquid magic.

Traditional Silversmithing

The primary methods I employ are sawing and disc cutting metal sheet which I then solder together. For casting glass and some enamelling I use a kiln. Each piece is individually crafted and my attention to detail reflects my commitment to quality and artistry.

Recycling

scrap silver shapes

I start with recycled silver and also make it a point to reuse the metal pieces I punch out to create new jewellery pieces. This ensures that very little goes to waste and allows me to minimise my environmental impact as much as possible.

My History

A little bit about myself……

How Tracy Millar Jewellery Began

Having dabbled with photography and making handbags I began my contemporary craft degree aged 38 where I did jewellery for the last 6 months in order to wear the glass I'd made.
I've been teaching myself ever since, discovering a passion within to push my skills and materials to their limits and a powerful drive to learn something everyday.
Due to my success when taking my work to craft markets I decided to relaunch my business with a new website in the summer of 2024

Motherhood

As well as studying, motherhood was another thing I did later in life when I had my only child not long after I finished my degree.
He came along and has brought so much love and joy into my world I can't even describe. So for the past 10 years I've mainly just been mum teaching him kindness and to work hard at doing what you love. As he gets older I'm more able to concentrate on my craft.
He inspires me to be the best I can be and is the catalyst driving me forward every day.
My son is, and always will be, my proudest achievement.

my art

I've always enjoyed photography and I use my phone to capture anything that catches my eye. I often photograph the jewellery I make and I love playing around with the images using colour, filters and framing until I get something I like. I also love to make something beautiful out of the mundane and even I'm sometimes surprised at the images that come off my phone. I have so many of them I've decided to do something with them and so I have added greetings cards and prints to my shop as it's another major expression of myself as an artist.
