I LOVE whitened silver and this is how I do it
– Heat metal to bring silver particles to the surface (I use sterling silver so that is mixed with some copper…)
– Quench metal in cold water
– ‘Pickle’ it in a pickle pot. (Pickle is a salt like powder I purchase from cookson gold. It cleans the metal and will remove any firestain. You could also use lemon and salt. And I use a small slow cooker as my pot because the solution works best with warm water)
– Repeat until you get desired effect (maybe 4 times…)
And that’s how you get white silver.
