Frequently asked questions

Here are a list of our most frequently asked questions. If you don’t see what your’e looking for please send me an email.

  • Store properly
    Keep silver dry and away from air, humidity, and other elements. You can store it in a tarnish-proof cloth, airtight bag, or box with a separate space for each piece. If your climate is humid, you can add a packet of desiccant crystals to the storage area. Avoid storing silver with rubber products, as the sulfur can cause tarnishing.
  • Avoid exposure
    Keep silver away from liquids, creams, and harsh chemicals like bleach and cleaning products. You should also remove it before swimming, showering, washing your hands, or exercising.
  • Clean regularly
    Tarnish is a chemical reaction between silver and oxygen or sulfur in the air, but it’s not damaging and can be removed with cleaning. You can make your own DIY cleaner with water and baking soda or washing up liquid or you can purchase silver cleaning solution.  You can also use a polishing cloth to remove dirt and tarnish, rubbing in one direction instead of circles.
  • Enamel and glass jewellery requires special care to ensure it looks its’ best and lasts as long as possible. Here are some tips for caring for enamel jewellery:
  • Cleaning
    Use a soft, damp cloth or a gentle jewellery cleaning solution. You can also soak the jewellery in warm, soapy water for 5–10 minutes, then gently brush off any dirt with a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners, which can damage the enamel.
  • Storage
    Store enamel jewelry in a soft pouch or jewelry box with padded compartments to prevent scratching or chipping. Clasp necklaces before storing to prevent tangles. Experts also recommend storing pieces separately to avoid scratching or tangling.
  • Avoid contact with chemicals
    Repeated contact with perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, detergents, or chlorine can cause the materials to dull or oxidise, or weaken and damage the enamel. Avoid putting on jewellery before applying these products.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures
    Extreme heat or cold can cause discoloration, deformation, or chipping.
  • DO NOT DROP it will damage enamel or glass

The UK uses a system of letters, plus a fraction – e.g. A, A 1/2, B etc. The closer the letter to the end of the alphabet, the larger the ring size. Once you get to ‘Z’, the uk ring sizes start adding on extra sizes with a ‘+’ symbol followed by a number – e.g. Z+3, Z+3.5 etc

Here are some ways to measure your ring size at home:

* String method
Wrap a piece of string or paper that’s no wider than 1.4 cm around the base of your finger where the ring will sit. Mark where the ends meet with a pen, then measure the length from the beginning of the string or paper to the mark with a ruler. For the most accurate result, measure your finger at the end of the day when it’s likely to be the largest. You can use a ring size conversion chart to match your measurement to a ring size (as shown below)

* Ring sizer
Download and print a ring sizer chart, cut it out, and place it around your finger. Pull the end through the slot until it fits snugly, then look at the letter the arrow points to for your ring size. Don’t pull the sizer too tight, as this can cause it to grip and give an incorrect measurement.

When it comes to my metal work, I have always found that sawpiercing holds a special place in my heart. While laser cutting may offer efficiency and speed, I have always been drawn to the traditional and meticulous process of doing it by hand. I did try laser cutting but felt it lacked the warmth and authenticity that I strive to infuse into my creations. My jewellery pieces are a reflection of my dedication to craftsmanship and I feel in a world of mass-production I can offer something truly unique.

Sawpiercing allows me to work with minimal power requirements and a greater sense of connection to the materials I use. This intimate relationship with my tools and techniques, I hope, shines through in the pieces that I craft.

At Tracy Millar Jewellery, I take great pride in crafting beautiful, handmade pieces that I hope you’ll love. However, if there’s an issue with your order, I’m here to help.
